Private Venice Walking Tour & Gondola Ride: San Polo, Rialto and St. Mark’s
See Venice on foot and from the water with a private local guide.
Begin in the quieter streets near Piazzale Roma, follow the story of Venice through San Polo and Rialto, then enjoy a 30-minute gondola ride before reaching St. Mark’s Square. This tour brings together neighbourhood life, the city’s trading history and its best-known landmarks.
From Piazzale Roma into San Polo
Meet your guide at Piazzale Roma and walk into Venice, where bridges and narrow lanes quickly replace roads and traffic. In San Polo, discover the small squares, canals and buildings that give the neighbourhood its character. Your guide will share stories of the people who lived and worked here, helping you notice details easily missed when walking alone.
Optional Visit: Basilica dei Frari
If you would like to devote more time to Venetian art, ask to add a visit inside the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari. This magnificent Gothic church houses works by Titian, Giovanni Bellini and Donatello. Your guide can tailor the visit to your interests before you continue towards Rialto.
The Frari visit is optional, subject to opening hours and an additional entrance ticket. Please arrange it in advance.
Rialto: Markets, Merchants and the Grand Canal
Continue towards Rialto, where trade helped shape Venice for centuries. Walk through the market area and hear how goods arrived by boat and passed through this busy part of the city. When the fish market is open, you can see a tradition that remains part of Venetian daily life.
Cross the Rialto Bridge and pause to admire the Grand Canal. Your guide will explain why this crossing mattered to merchants and residents, and how the district became central to Venice’s commercial success.
A Gondola Ride Through the Canals
Enjoy a 30-minute gondola ride for a new view of the city. From the water, bridges, palaces and canal-side doorways reveal details that are difficult to see on foot. Take a moment to relax and experience how different Venice feels when you travel at the pace of a gondola.
Finish in St. Mark’s Square
Your walk ends in Piazza San Marco. Admire St. Mark’s Basilica, the Campanile, Clock Tower and Doge’s Palace from outside while your guide explains their place in the history of the Venetian Republic.
You will also see the Bridge of Sighs from outside and hear what it connected—and how it acquired its famous name. This final stop brings the tour from Venice’s neighbourhoods and markets to its ceremonial heart.
